Plan sustainable clothing manufacturing for a Polish brand

Plan apparel production with material evidence, sample approvals, quality controls and destination-market requirements in view.

“Sustainable” does not specify which material, process or product attribute a statement describes. Define its scope and the records that could support it first. Fiber composition, a supplier declaration, a certificate, a transaction document and a test result serve different purposes; do not treat them as interchangeable or extend a conclusion beyond their scope.

Fenalt coordinates managed apparel manufacturing and sourcing. Depending on the project, work can include technical review, material sourcing, sampling, production coordination with partners and on-site quality control. Material, partner, documentation and terms are set for each project. Coordination alone does not establish environmental properties or certification for a material or facility.

Define the claim before selecting a material

For each style, record whether a statement concerns a fiber, a component, a process or the complete garment. State the percentage or scope, required evidence, source and limitations. Keep verified inputs separate from project goals such as preferred packaging or waste reduction.

For a certified or recycled input, check the current document scope, named entity and supply-chain stage, and its connection to the material and order. A standard name does not automatically cover every component or finished product. Copy, graphics, symbols and nearby qualifications should stay within the evidence available for the specific product.

Choose materials for function and available evidence

Organic cotton, recycled fibers and cellulosic fibers raise different questions about hand feel, durability, care, color and documentation. Availability and performance need to be confirmed for the order.

Organic cotton

Specify composition, knit or woven construction, weight, color and the documentation required. For knits, assess gauge, shrinkage and recovery; for wovens, review construction, finishing and intended wash. Check that documents cover the relevant input and transaction.

Recycled synthetics

Record the requested fiber, blend share, yarn or fabric construction, and evidence expected from each supply-chain stage. For performance products, consider relevant properties such as pilling, colorfastness, stretch recovery or abrasion. Include elastane, coatings, membranes and trims in the bill of materials so a claim is not generalized to uncovered components.

Cellulosic fibers and available stock materials

Name the specific fiber and source requirements, then review drape, strength, care behavior and finish on a development sample. Stock material may have limited quantity, color choice or repeat availability. Availability is not guaranteed; confirm quantity, shade, reserve and repeat conditions before fixing a sales plan.

Approve the finished garment as one system

Provide a tech pack, measurement chart, grading, bill of materials, construction, tolerances, artwork, labels and packing requirements. Identify file versions and who can approve them. Fenalt can coordinate technical review, sourcing, prototyping and production against the agreed brief; feasibility depends on the selected material, partner and scope.

  1. Feasibility and material

Review construction, quantities, availability, shade, documentation and test scope.

  2. Sample and approval

Approve fit, material, color, trims and claim wording against the specific sample version.

  3. Production and control

Agree quantity, inspection points, acceptance criteria, records and shipping responsibilities.

Minimums, availability and cost depend on construction, material source and lot, color count, decoration, trims and production setup. Request a quote that separates assumptions, sample development, materials, sewing, inspection and freight. Do not assume one minimum, price or schedule applies to every style.

Include labels and destination-market requirements

Regulation (EU) No 1007/2011 sets textile fiber names and rules for labeling textile fiber composition. Verify the composition against the specification and check the language needed for the markets where the product will be offered. UOKiK describes the seller’s duty to provide consumers with clear, understandable and non-misleading information in Polish. The responsible operator should verify how requirements apply to the particular product and sales channel.

Share any applicable restricted-substance list and testing expectations. Consider dyes, prints, coatings, finishes, trims and base materials according to their use. Requirements depend on product and market; confirm the current scope and an order-specific test plan before production. Do not attribute certification to a supplier or product without current evidence for the relevant scope.

Plan documents and delivery for the order

Agree who is responsible for labels, commercial documents, customs entry, transport and receipt. Tariff classification, value and origin affect the calculation of duties on imports into the EU. Use current classification and TARIC information for the actual product and transaction; this page does not state duty rates or determine preferential origin.

Fenalt’s reference terms are DAP for small courier shipments and FOB Chattogram for larger sea freight, but routing and terms depend on production origin, destination, shipment size and the agreed Incoterm. The written quote should identify the named place, each party’s scope, documents and costs. Delivery schedules are confirmed for the order.

Checklist before requesting a quote

  • Tech pack, size range, construction and specification version.
  • Material composition and function; mark alternatives as proposals.
  • Scope of each environmental statement and supporting evidence required.
  • Quantity by style, color and size, plus any repeat plan.
  • Sample acceptance criteria and quality checkpoints.
  • Sales markets, label approval and the person responsible for compliance.
  • Delivery place, proposed Incoterm, import roles and required documents.
