Private Label Clothing for New Zealand Brands
Plan the brand files, product decisions, sample approvals and shipment handover together. Fenalt coordinates production through project-selected partners; origin, import treatment and product requirements depend on the specific garment and order.

Make the specification reviewable
Share the current tech pack and version, garment category and use, fit, size range, known fibre content and fabric weight, colours, trims, artwork, labels, packaging, quantity by style and variant, destination and target window. Mark open decisions so they do not become assumed specifications.
Private label connects garment engineering with brand identity. List labels, tags, prints, embroidery, packaging and buyer-supplied materials, including file version and placement. Record who approves changes and keep dated revisions with the sample accepted for production.
Fenalt coordinates private-label production and custom branding through a managed manufacturing and sourcing process. Production partners are selected for each project; Fenalt is not a factory directory or open marketplace and does not claim to own production facilities.
Planning references
Confirm quantity, sample and production scope
- Minimum: Fenalt's standard reference is 50 pieces per style. Confirm style definition and quantity breakdown in the quotation; do not assume styles or fabric requirements combine.
- Sample: 10–15 days for sample production, plus a separate 3–5 days for shipping.
- Bulk: 15–20 days from pre-production sample sign-off to export dispatch, not arrival in New Zealand.
These are planning references, not guarantees. Materials, approvals, revisions, production partners and shipment arrangements can affect the schedule. Confirm start points, scope and dates in writing.
Quality plan
Agree measurable acceptance criteria
Record the approved sample, measurement points and tolerances, material and construction criteria, inspection scope, records and corrective-action process. AQL 2.5 under ANSI/ASQ Z1.4 Level II applies only when it is included in the written inspection plan with the sampling method and acceptance limits. It is a sampling method, not inspection of every item or a defect-free guarantee.
Fenalt provides on-site quality control during production. Deviations are reviewed against the agreed standard, and appropriate corrective action is coordinated with the production partner. Needle or metal detection can be included when required by the product, buyer specification or production facility; confirm the order scope.
New Zealand buyer checks
Confirm the entry and product information for the garment
Importer and tariff checks
Customs says imported goods must be cleared before receipt. The entry and applicable duties, GST, charges and levies depend on the goods and transaction. Customs requires a client code for imports valued at NZ$1,000 or more; commercial-importer guidance says goods worth more than NZ$1,000 also require a supplier code and Trade Single Window registration. Other categories may need a client code at any value. Confirm the importer, codes and entry with a broker or specialist.
Use the current Working Tariff Document to check classification, rates and concessions for the actual garment. Construction, fibre composition and manufacturing origin matter. No general apparel code, duty rate, preferential origin result or GST calculation is stated here. Inland Revenue says a GST-registered business may claim eligible input tax subject to taxable-use and record requirements; ask an accountant to confirm the buyer's treatment.
Care, origin and fibre information
The Commerce Commission lists separate standards for care labelling, clothing country-of-origin information and fibre content. Scope and exceptions apply. Covered new clothing needs legible care information in English; most new clothing and footwear needs origin information in English; many textile products require fibre information. Check the standard and label artwork for the specific product with a New Zealand product-compliance specialist.
Shipment handover
Name the destination and responsible party
Set out production origin, named destination, shipment size, documents, transport responsibility and agreed Incoterm in the order. Fenalt's references are DAP for small-batch courier shipments and FOB Chattogram for bulk sea freight, subject to confirmation for the actual project. These terms do not establish duties, taxes, customs clearance, landed cost or arrival date by themselves.
Customs and MPI goods-management levies changed on 1 April 2026. Confirm current charges for the consignment with a broker or forwarder. The buyer or importer should verify classification, origin evidence, declarations, taxes, labelling and other destination requirements. Fenalt coordinates the agreed workflow but does not give a universal compliance or clearance guarantee.
