Production planning for Japan
Apparel manufacturing and production management for Japanese brands
Fenalt coordinates apparel production from specification review and material sourcing through sampling, quality checks, and export dispatch. Factory, product, capability, commercial, and shipping responsibilities are confirmed for each project.
Standard production planning guide
| Item | Guide | Conditions |
|---|---|---|
| Minimum order quantity | 50 pieces per style | A standard guide for custom knitwear, woven apparel, and cut-and-sew production. |
| Sampling | 10–15 days production + 3–5 days shipping | Includes tech pack review, lab dips, pattern drafting, and prototype dispatch. |
| Bulk production | 15–20 days | An estimate from pre-production (PP) sample approval through export dispatch. |
| Inspection | ANSI/ASQ Z1.4 Level II | AQL 2.5 applies to major defects only within the inspection plan agreed for the order. |
| Shipping terms | DAP / FOB Chattogram | DAP is the planning basis for small courier shipments; FOB Chattogram for bulk sea freight. Confirm per project. |
Turn the specification into production requirements
Fenalt reviews the brand’s tech pack and coordinates materials, patterns, sewing, finishing, quality checks, and dispatch. Unclear specifications remain open questions instead of being filled with assumptions. A single managed point of contact is intended to reduce communication gaps with factories and quality risks associated with unmanaged sourcing.
Match materials and finishing to approved samples
Combed compact ring-spun yarn, fabric at the specified GSM, and heat setting for cotton–elastane blends are selected against the tech pack. Pantone TCX or TPX references are checked with physical lab dips and approved before bulk under standard D65 lighting. Stenter processing or mechanical compacting can help stabilize post-wash shrinkage within the commercial tolerance agreed for the order.
Review Japan-facing labels and finishing
Japan’s Household Goods Quality Labeling Act and related rules apply to product categories designated by law. For covered textile products, check the Textile Products Quality Labeling Regulations for applicable fiber-composition and care-label information, which references JIS L 0001:2024. Do not treat origin or importer details as universal apparel-label requirements; verify them for the product category, sales channel, and responsible party. The brand and importer should confirm the actual obligations with a qualified specialist. Fenalt does not assess or certify product-specific compliance. Keep sewing accuracy, colorfastness, and shrinkage requirements in the specification and inspection plan; include needle or metal detection only when required by the product, buyer specification, or production facility, and record results when included in the agreed plan.
Official guidance: scope of the Household Goods Quality Labeling Act and the Consumer Affairs Agency’s Textile Products Quality Labeling Regulations.
Check production before bulk and before dispatch
Before bulk production, face fabric, lining, thread, zippers, buttons, and labels are compared with approved references. At roughly 15–20% of production, an in-line review checks construction, seams, stitches per inch (SPI), and initial measurements. During packing, a final random inspection follows ANSI/ASQ Z1.4 Level II; AQL 2.5 is applied only to the agreed scope. Garment-class standard industry tolerances are recorded at each point of measure (POM) in the tech pack.
Plan sampling, production, and shipping separately
Sample production is estimated at 10–15 days, with courier delivery estimated separately at 3–5 days. Bulk production is estimated at 15–20 days from PP sample approval to export dispatch; this is not an arrival-date estimate. Small orders are planned on DAP courier terms and bulk sea freight on FOB Chattogram. Transit time and the treatment of duties, taxes, and consumption tax depend on the product, HS code, route, and contract terms and must be confirmed for each shipment.
Frequently asked questions
What is the standard MOQ?
The standard guide is 50 pieces per style. Confirm the order individually because materials, construction, colors, trims, and size breakdown can affect it.
How long do sampling and bulk production take?
Sample production is estimated at 10–15 days, plus a separate 3–5 day shipping estimate. Bulk production is estimated at 15–20 days from PP sample approval to export dispatch.
Which quality standard is used?
Final inspection uses ANSI/ASQ Z1.4 Level II. AQL 2.5 applies to major defects within the inspection plan agreed for the order. Needle inspection results are recorded where included in that plan.
Can I specify color and finish?
Pantone TCX or TPX references can guide physical lab dips, which are reviewed under standard D65 lighting before bulk. Processing and acceptance tolerances are confirmed against the specification.
