Managed production for Finnish brands

Clothing Manufacturing for Finnish Fashion Brands

Finnish fashion combines minimalist aesthetics, functional design, and a strong sustainability expectation. Fenalt connects design teams in Helsinki, Tampere, and Turku with vetted overseas production capacity.

Technical reviews, physical sampling, on-site quality control, and international logistics stay inside one managed production lifecycle instead of being split across an unmanaged factory relationship.

Direct answer

A managed offshore route for Finnish brands

Fenalt does not operate domestic manufacturing facilities in Finland, and it is not a passive directory or broker. We coordinate specialized overseas partner facilities, translate the technical brief, oversee sampling and production, and manage the export path.

  • MOQ: 50 pieces per style
  • Sampling: 10–15 days production + 3–5 days courier
  • Bulk: 15–20 days from PP sign-off to dispatch
  • Inspection: ANSI/ASQ Z1.4 Level II / AQL 2.5
  • Delivery: DAP courier or FOB origin-port freight

Decision support

Managed sourcing versus unmanaged alternatives

The Finnish buyer should see who owns technical accuracy, quality, and import administration before choosing a route.

Finnish product depth

Engineer around Nordic use, not just Nordic aesthetics

Heavyweight knits

Combed compact ring-spun yarn, 280–450 GSM organic cotton or blends, stenter framing, and mechanical compacting for stable hoodies, sweatshirts, and loungewear.

Wovens and tailored casual

High-grade cotton, linen, canvas, twill, and corduroy overshirts, trousers, chinos, and utility pieces with controlled POM execution.

Functional outerwear

High-density nylon and polyester shells, PFC-free DWR, taped seams, technical hardware, insulated jackets, and padded mid-layers.

Denim and structured bottoms

12–16 oz rigid or stretch denim, enzyme, ozone, and stone washing, custom distressing, double-knee panels, and bar-tacked stress points.

Order planning

Build the season backward from delivery

Finnish SS and AW calendars leave little room for an unplanned sample revision or customs delay.

01

Technical intake

Review POMs, seams, fabrics, and construction risks during days 1–3.

02

Sampling

Build the physical PPS in 10–15 days and deliver it by express courier in 3–5 days.

03

Bulk production

After written approval, coordinate knitting or weaving, dyeing, cutting, sewing, embellishment, and packaging in 15–20 days.

04

Logistics

Use DAP courier for small runs or FOB Chattogram for high-volume sea freight after final inspection.

Finland compliance

Labels, chemicals, and seasonal readiness

EU and REACH

Material and finish reviews cover REACH restrictions on azo colorants, phthalates, and heavy metals, with low-impact DWR where technical outerwear requires it.

Labeling

Finnish and Swedish detail

Fiber percentages, ISO 3758 care symbols, producer or importer data, and Finnish/Swedish wording are planned for local retail distribution.

Retail calendar

SS in February/March

Autumn/Winter deliveries typically land in August/September. Sampling, bulk, and freight are scheduled backward from those commercial windows.

Logistics

Make Finnish import responsibility explicit

DAP courier

Small-batch delivery

Goods move to a Finnish warehouse or fulfillment center in approximately 3–5 business days from export dispatch. The buyer accounts for local VAT and duties on arrival.

FOB origin port

Bulk ocean freight

Fenalt handles origin clearance and port loading at Chattogram or another agreed port, while the buyer’s nominated forwarder manages primary sea freight and arrival clearance.

Tulli planning

Duties and VAT

Applicable EU duties depend on the garment HS code. Finnish VAT is 25.5% on the relevant landed value; sea freight to Helsinki or Kotka is planned around 35–45 days.

Quality control

Inspect the garment before it becomes a Finnish return

Testing and final inspection connect Finnish fit expectations to measurable release gates.

Fabric and washing colorfastness

Before bulk cutting, representative swatches undergo light-table review and colorfastness to washing testing under ISO 105-C06, checking that domestic laundering does not cause bleeding or fading.

Transfer and pilling resistance

ISO 105-X12 checks wet and dry crocking to limit dye transfer onto skin or lighter fabrics. ISO 12945-2 assesses pilling through the Modified Martindale method so surface durability is checked before bulk release.

Points of measure

Commercial POM tolerances are defined before production. Knit tops use approximately ±1.0 to 1.5 cm on chest and length, while woven bottoms use approximately ±1.0 cm on waist and inseam.

AQL release and rectification

ANSI/ASQ Z1.4 Level II sampling applies an AQL 2.5 acceptance threshold for major defects. A production lot above that threshold is rejected and sent back for immediate rectification before export dispatch.

Questions & answers

Finnish clothing manufacturing FAQ

How does Fenalt handle customs and import duties into Finland?

For DAP shipments, the courier can act as customs broker and collect Finnish VAT and applicable EU duties at arrival. Fenalt prepares commercial invoices, packing lists, and origin documentation for Finnish Customs (Tulli).

Can Fenalt source GOTS organic cotton or recycled materials?

Yes. The managed network includes partners able to process GOTS-certified organic cotton and GRS-certified recycled polyester, with Transaction Certificates coordinated for certified runs.

What dimensional tolerances apply?

Fenalt applies standard commercial apparel tolerances across all POMs. Knitwear commonly uses approximately ±1.0–1.5 cm on critical points, while structured outerwear can use approximately ±1.0 cm where specified.

How does the 50-piece MOQ work across sizes?

The 50-piece-per-style baseline can be distributed across a reasonable size curve such as S, M, L, and XL. Custom Nordic size curves can be set in the approved spec sheet.

What documentation is needed to begin sampling?

A useful tech pack includes front and back technical flats, BOM, fabric GSM and fiber details, trim specifications, a graded POM chart, and vector artwork with Pantone references. Fenalt can help develop missing technical detail from a physical reference or design sketch.

What are the shipping transit times to Finland?

DAP courier shipments generally take 3–5 business days from export dispatch to a Finnish address. FOB sea freight from Chattogram to ports such as Helsinki or Kotka is commonly planned around 35–45 days.

How do you prevent torqueing and shrinkage in heavyweight fleece?

Balanced yarn twist, controlled knitting tension, stenter framing, tensionless drying, and pre-production shrinkage testing relax the loop structure and allow patterns to be adjusted before bulk cutting.
