Small-Batch Clothing Manufacturing for Finnish Brands
A small apparel run still depends on clear decisions about the product, materials, colours, size breakdown, samples, quality and delivery terms. Fenalt reviews the technical brief and coordinates suitable production with factories, suppliers and other production partners selected for the project. Fenalt is a managed manufacturing and sourcing solution, not a factory directory, and this page does not claim that production takes place in Finland.
Prepare a production briefQuantities and product brief
Define quantities by style and variant
Fenalt's standard MOQ is 50 pieces per style. Treat this as an enquiry reference, not a promise that every fabric, colour, size and detail combination can be produced at that quantity. State quantities separately for each style, colour and size, then confirm the applicable minimum in the quotation.
Fenalt describes its capsule booking for limited drops of 100–300 units in total. This does not remove the need to confirm the style-level MOQ, quantities and assortment. A smaller first run can help assess demand before a possible repeat order, but repeat availability and terms must be confirmed separately. Fabric and colour minimums depend on construction, supplier, dyeing process and specification.
Prepare a technical brief
- Tech pack or product description with sketches and construction
- Points of measure, size chart, materials and colours
- Known fibre content, fabric weight, trims and finishing
- Quantity by style, colour and size
- Logos and print or embroidery placement
- Label, hangtag and packaging requirements
- Intended sales markets and planned product information
- Delivery location in Finland and planning window
- Required tests, documents and inspection criteria
- Person authorised to approve artwork, samples and changes
Mark unresolved choices as open questions so assumptions do not become production specifications.
Textile information
Check fibre and care information for the product
Fibre-composition requirements apply to covered textile products marketed in the EU. EU guidance says fibre names are shown in descending order by percentage, with clear, legible information separated from other product information. Language requirements are connected to the markets where goods are offered to consumers. Confirm product scope, exceptions, required language and responsibility for the actual item before approving label artwork. See the European Commission textile-label guidance and Regulation (EU) No 1007/2011.
Care instructions are a separate check from fibre-composition labelling. Finnish Consumer Ombudsman guidance says vendors must provide operating, maintenance and care instructions needed for normal use in Finnish and Swedish; it notes an exception for instructions conveyed through widely known symbols, including clothing care labels. Assess the seller's role and the specific product. See KKV user-instructions guidance.
From brief to production
Record decisions before the bulk run
Technical review
Fenalt reviews construction, materials, variants and quantities, and coordinates open questions with relevant project partners.
Sample and feedback
Fenalt coordinates sample or prototype development. Tie feedback on fit, measurements, colour, material and branding to the correct brief version.
Written approval
Compare the approval sample with the final specification. Record approved measurements, materials, construction, artwork and quality criteria before production is planned.
Production and handover
Fenalt coordinates agreed quality checkpoints and handover under the order terms. Partner, production location, route and delivery point are confirmed for each project.
Sample production is referenced at 10–15 days, with sample shipping shown separately at 3–5 days. Bulk production is referenced at 15–20 days from pre-production sample sign-off to dispatch from the export point. These are not a total transit time to Finland or a guaranteed delivery date.
Quality, delivery and import
Agree responsibilities in the order
Put measurement points and product-specific tolerances, material and colour references, construction, inspection stages and acceptance criteria in writing. Fenalt's inspection reference is AQL 2.5 under ANSI/ASQ Z1.4 Level II, when confirmed in the agreed quality plan. This is sampling inspection, not inspection of every piece or a defect-free guarantee. Tests, certificates and needle or metal detection depend on the product, buyer specification and facility.
For small courier shipments, the term may be DAP; for bulk sea freight, it may be FOB Chattogram. Route and term depend on production origin, destination, shipment size and the agreed Incoterm. Confirm responsibilities, customs declarant and delivery term in the quotation; do not assume Fenalt is importer or importer of record.
An EORI number is required for customs clearance in the EU customs territory, while which operator needs one depends on its establishment and customs activity. For goods imported from outside the EU, classification affects duties and restrictions. A duty figure needs the commodity code, origin and current measures; check EU TARIC or Finnish Customs' Fintaric. The Finnish Tax Administration generally handles import VAT for an importer registered for VAT in Finland through the VAT return; other situations can follow a different process. See Vero's import VAT guidance and the European Commission EORI guidance.
This page provides general production-planning information, not legal, tax or customs advice. Confirm exact requirements and responsibilities with a qualified specialist for the product and delivery arrangement.
Before you request a quotation
Bring together the tech pack, variant breakdown, logo and label artwork, sample requirements, quality criteria and delivery location. List open questions so fibre and care labelling, responsibility and customs steps for goods entering Finland can be checked before production and sale. Share a production brief or review Fenalt's services.
