Singeing and desizing
Removes surface fibers for a smoother face before dyeing and finishing.
Fabric material guide
Poplin is a tightly woven plain-weave textile with a crisp hand, clean surface, breathable drape, and structural integrity for shirtings, blouses, uniforms, and lightweight outerwear.
Textile definition
Poplin's plain weave uses high-density fine warp yarns closely covering coarser weft yarns. That asymmetry creates subtle crosswise micro-ribbing, a smooth face, and a crisp but breathable drape.
Fenalt manages mill coordination, yarn selection, lab dips, finishing, material inspection, and finished-garment execution so the chosen poplin behaves predictably in production.
Technical specification
GSM, yarn count, thread density, and composition define opacity, hand-feel, and the final silhouette.
| Grade | Composition | Warp × weft | EPI × PPI | GSM | Shrinkage |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Standard poplin | 100% combed cotton | 40s × 40s | 110 × 76 EPI/PPI | 110–125 GSM | <3% warp/weft |
| Premium fine poplin | Long-staple cotton | 80/2s × 80/2s | 144 × 80 EPI/PPI | 95–115 GSM | <2% warp/weft |
| Stretch cotton poplin | 97% cotton / 3% spandex | 50s × 40s + 40D | 120 × 84 EPI/PPI | 120–140 GSM | <4% warp/weft |
| Technical poplin | 65% polyester / 35% cotton | 45s × 45s | 110 × 76 EPI/PPI | 115–130 GSM | <1.5% warp/weft |
Finishing and performance
Removes surface fibers for a smoother face before dyeing and finishing.
Under tension, sodium hydroxide increases luster, dye affinity, and tensile strength.
Improves softness, wrinkle recovery, and dimensional stability in premium cotton poplin.
Sets width and grain while controlling skew, residual shrinkage, and finished cuttable stability.
Managed procurement
Set the composition, yarn count, GSM, EPI/PPI, weave, finish, color, and intended garment.
Fenalt coordinates physical swatches, lab dips, GSM verification, and pre-production sign-off.
Fabric is checked before cutting and delivered DAP for small batches or FOB designated export port for bulk sea freight.

Questions and answers
Its tight plain weave suits button-down shirts, blouses, shirt-dresses, uniforms, utility overshirts, trench linings, and lightweight outerwear.
85–110 GSM suits summer shirtings and fine blouses, 115–140 GSM suits classic shirts and uniforms, and 145–180 GSM suits overshirts, utility jackets, and structured dresses.
Liquid ammonia re-aligns cotton cellulose under controlled conditions to improve softness, wrinkle recovery, luster, and dimensional stability without relying only on harsh resins.
Singeing, mercerization, stenter framing, and mechanical compacting manage the grain, width, skew, and residual shrinkage before the material is released for cutting.
Material checks and finished-garment inspection follow ANSI/ASQ Z1.4 Level II with an AQL 2.5 acceptance threshold, including GSM, density, lab dips, and dimensional checks.
