Denim Fabric Sourcing

Select rigid, stretch, slub, dual-core, or eco-denim around the actual garment silhouette, wash recipe, weight, recovery, and seam load. Fenalt manages mill procurement through cut-and-sew export.

Textile definition

A Warp-Faced Twill Built for Wash and Wear

Denim typically uses indigo-dyed warp yarns floating over undyed weft yarns in a 3/1 or 2/1 twill. The diagonal face and pale reverse are paired with yarn and finishing choices that determine fading, hand-feel, recovery, and tensile resilience.

Fenalt verifies weight, weave, stretch, shrinkage, skew, shade, and laundry compatibility before denim reaches the cutting room.

Yarn, dyeing, and stretch

Engineer the Denim Before the Laundry Starts

Rigid cotton

100% cotton provides authentic structure, crisp laser contrast, high-low abrasion marks, and maximum tensile strength.

Comfort stretch

98/2 or 97/3 cotton-elastane blends provide roughly 15%–25% elongation for everyday jeans.

Dual-core stretch

Lycra, T400, or elastomultiester cores can provide 30%–55% stretch with low seat and knee growth.

Yarn and dye

Ring-spun, open-end, slub, rope-dyed, or slasher-dyed options shape fading, texture, and final hand-feel.

Finishes may include mercerization, desizing, sanforization, singeing, PU coating, water repellency, eco-reduced indigo systems, ozone, enzyme, stone, laser, or resin processes, selected for the final garment and wash recipe.

Managed procurement

Mill-Standard Rolls or Custom Loom Engineering

Mill-standard wholesale

Production-ready bases with established physical test data, proven wash performance, standardized shrinkage, and pre-vetted yarn parameters for faster programs.

Custom engineered runs

Bespoke slub profiles, recycled cotton or hemp blends, high-tenacity cores, and proprietary green-cast, red-cast, pure indigo, or sulfur-topped shades.

Roll handling

57/58 or 59/60 inch usable widths, cardboard tubes, HDPE film, woven outer sacks, moisture protection, and shade-band tags support safe export.

Quality release

Four-point inspection, tensile and tear testing, crocking, skew, torque, shade sorting, and ANSI/ASQ Z1.4 Level II/AQL 2.5 are integrated before dispatch.

Questions and answers

Denim Fabric Sourcing FAQs

What denim weight suits five-pocket jeans?

Rigid 12.0–14.5 oz/yd² denim suits structured jeans, while 9.5–11.5 oz/yd² elastane blends offer everyday comfort stretch.

What is the difference between rope and slasher dyeing?

Rope dyeing preserves a lighter core for high-contrast fading; slasher dyeing creates a different penetration and production profile. Fenalt coordinates the method against the desired wash result.

How much stretch can dual-core denim provide?

Cotton, poly, elastane, or elastomultiester dual-core constructions can deliver roughly 30%–55% stretch with low growth, depending on the specification.

How are skew and torque controlled?

Sanforization, mechanical compacting, stenter framing, and pre-shipment testing control twill torque, shrinkage, and leg-twist risk.

What quality checks are applied to denim rolls?

Four-point visual inspection, AQL 2.5 sampling, tensile and tear testing, seam slippage, crocking, skew, torque, and shade sorting are available within the managed workflow.
