Clothing Manufacturing for Spanish Brands

A Spanish apparel team evaluating clothing manufacturing needs a brief that connects product decisions to sample approval, import responsibilities and the delivery point. Fenalt coordinates sourcing and manufacturing through a managed production network. The production route and commercial terms depend on the garment and confirmed project requirements.

Product definition

Prepare a brief your team can approve

For each style, share the intended use, knit or woven construction, fibre composition, fabric weight where known, colour, fit, size range, trims, print or embroidery, labels, packaging and units by style. Attach the current tech pack and mark which requirements are final, provisional or open to an approved alternative. A mood board or target retail price alone is not a production specification.

Agree who owns design, fit, label, packaging, inspection and customs decisions. Record the sample revision, points of measure, tolerances, material references, colour standard, construction and acceptance criteria. Identify the required delivery point and date, the person approving the sample, and any product claims or markets that need review. If the range will be sold in multiple EU countries, list those destinations before finalising label languages and compliance checks.

Fenalt provides managed apparel manufacturing and sourcing, coordinating technical review, materials, sampling, production and shipment planning with factories, suppliers and production partners selected for each project. Fenalt is not a factory directory and does not claim to own a factory or manufacture in Spain.

Sampling and production

Plan sample and bulk timing around approvals

Fenalt's current planning reference is a minimum of 50 pieces per style. The quotation must confirm whether that quantity works for the requested fabric, colour, construction and size breakdown. Do not assume separate styles can be combined to meet a minimum unless the quote confirms the scope.

Sampling reference

10–15 days of sample production, plus a separate 3–5 day shipping reference. Confirm the route, day-count basis and start date with the project lead; these are not guaranteed arrival dates in Spain.

Bulk production reference

15–20 days from pre-production sample sign-off to export dispatch, not door-to-door delivery. Transport, customs and final delivery are separate schedule items.

Allow time for sample review, measurements, relevant tests, consolidated comments and any revised sample. Before bulk work starts, approve one controlling sample and its specification. Record any later change and its effect on cost, timing, testing and inspection before accepting it.

Acceptance criteria

Define garment-specific quality checks

State the measurement points, units, tolerances and evaluation condition. For performance or stretch styles, specify any required recovery, opacity, colourfastness, seam strength, shrinkage, pilling or print-durability checks. Agree the test method and pass criteria for the actual fabric and supplier; a material name or supplier document does not by itself prove a finished garment's performance.

Fenalt's current inspection reference is AQL 2.5 under ANSI/ASQ Z1.4 Level II. The quote or quality plan should confirm whether it applies, the lot definition, inspection stage, sampling plan and result-approval responsibility. It does not mean every unit is inspected or that defects are impossible.

For a non-conformity, Fenalt reviews the issue against the agreed quality standard and coordinates an appropriate corrective action with the production partner. The contract and evidence determine the remedy; no automatic refund, replacement or re-run is promised here.

Product and label review

Review EU textile and product requirements

Regulation (EU) No 1007/2011 governs textile-fibre names and related composition labelling and marking for products within scope. It requires applicable fibre information to be durable, legible, visible and accessible, and addresses fibre-composition information in commercial documents for business-to-business supply. Confirm scope and any exemption for the actual garment rather than applying a blanket rule. Read the EU textile-fibre regulation and Your Europe textile guidance.

Before labels are printed, the Spanish importer and brand should validate fibre names, component composition, label text and languages for the places where the goods will be made available. Ask a product-compliance adviser about multiple textile components, linings, non-textile parts of animal origin and any special claims. Do not use “organic,” “recycled,” “sustainable,” “antibacterial” or performance claims unless product evidence supports the exact wording.

REACH restricts certain substances in articles, including specified restrictions relevant to clothing and textiles. Product-safety duties depend on product scope and the economic operator's role. Identify the intended user and use, materials, finishes, trims and claims, then agree what supplier declarations, test reports and technical records the order needs. “EU compliant” or “REACH certified” is not a substitute for product-specific review. Confirm responsibilities for each project. See ECHA REACH restrictions and the General Product Safety Regulation.

Destination and import handoff

Check customs classification, origin and Spanish import tax

The destination matters. The European Commission territorial-scope table identifies which Spanish territories fall within EU customs and VAT rules. This is a planning distinction, not a determination of tax or declaration treatment for a particular order.

Mainland Spain and Balearic IslandsApplyApplyConfirm classification, origin, importer and declaration for the shipment.
Canary IslandsApplyEU VAT rules do not applyVerify the distinct import and local-tax process for the destination.
Ceuta and MelillaDo not applyEU VAT rules do not applyThe Spanish Tax Agency identifies IPSI rather than VAT; confirm the specific treatment.

TARIC integrates EU tariff and other trade measures. Classification affects the duty and other measures that may apply, so “clothing” alone cannot support a reliable rate. Check the garment's construction, fibre, category and documented country of origin in the TARIC database and Access2Markets. Customs origin reflects where goods are considered produced or manufactured, not simply where they are shipped from; origin is considered alongside tariff classification and customs value. Preferential treatment depends on product-specific origin rules and evidence.

Before order confirmation, have the Spanish importer or customs representative verify the CN/TARIC code, origin evidence, declaration details and applicable controls for the actual style. This page states no duty percentage, preference result or landed-cost total.

The Spanish Tax Agency explains import VAT treatment. For VAT purposes, importation generally concerns goods entering from outside the EU, with import VAT settled at customs. Mainland Spain and the Balearic Islands are within the EU VAT territory. The Canary Islands are outside that VAT territory but remain within the EU customs territory. Ceuta and Melilla are outside both; the Tax Agency says IPSI applies there rather than VAT. Buyers should verify the exact customs, tax, importer and declaration process with a qualified adviser. This page gives no VAT rate and does not determine recoverability.

Commercial and delivery plan

Agree currency, payment and delivery terms

Spain is in the euro area. Ask whether Fenalt can quote and invoice this project in EUR or another currency, and record any exchange-rate basis, bank charges, quote validity, deposit, balance trigger, due dates and required payment documents. Fenalt-specific payment methods and terms must be confirmed in the project quote; no default schedule or credit arrangement is stated here. See the European Commission's Spain and the euro information.

Qualified DAP reference

Small-batch courier options may use DAP, subject to the project quotation and named place.

Qualified FOB reference

Bulk sea freight may use FOB Chattogram, subject to the project quotation and exact shipment route.

Routing and terms depend on production origin, destination, shipment size and the agreed Incoterm. The quote should name the exact place or port and allocate transport booking, export and import clearance, duties, taxes, unloading and insurance. Incoterms® 2020 define these responsibilities; use the precise rule and named location in the contract. See the International Chamber of Commerce Incoterms 2020 guidance.

A sample-shipping reference and an export-dispatch estimate are not bulk transit times to Spain. Ask the project team to confirm the route and mode when known, then have the carrier or forwarder confirm a current schedule. Plan backward from the buyer's required-in-store date, including approvals, production, inspection, cargo handover, customs and final delivery.

Prepare the inquiry

Make the RFQ actionable

Send the tech pack, material preferences, quantities by style and size, target use, label and artwork files, packaging needs, inspection criteria, required date and delivery point. Mark what is final and what needs technical or sourcing feedback. Ask the quote to separate confirmed facts from assumptions and show sample scope, exclusions, commercial terms and the next buyer decision.

Fenalt can review a custom-manufacturing brief, coordinate sourcing and sampling, manage production with project-selected partners, and plan delivery under agreed terms. The production route and commercial proposal are confirmed after project review. Share a manufacturing brief or review Fenalt's capabilities.

Buyer questions

Questions from Spain-based apparel teams

Can Fenalt confirm an import duty before I send the product brief?

Not from the country name alone. Classification and current measures must be checked for the product details and documented origin by the Spanish importer or its customs representative. A production quotation is not a customs ruling.

Does bulk production include delivery to Spain?

No. The 15–20 day reference runs from pre-production sample sign-off to export dispatch. Transport, customs and final delivery are separate and depend on the route and agreed delivery term.

Does Fenalt guarantee EU textile or chemical compliance?

This page makes no blanket compliance guarantee. The brand and importer should identify the rules and evidence that apply to the actual garment, intended market, materials and claims. Fenalt can coordinate production information and agreed checks within the confirmed project scope.

Next step

Prepare the project for a useful review

Share the brief, technical pack available, quantities by style and size, destination, and any label or documentation requirements. This gives the team a basis to identify what must be confirmed before coordinating a sample or quotation.
